On the edge of Denham village in Buckinghamshire, Denham Place is surprisingly close to London. The delights of the capital are just a 30-minute drive away. At the same time, the secluded house and estate provide pure fresh air and rural tranquility.

Heathrow airport, London’s air travel hub, can be reached by car in 15 minutes, while Northolt, an important base for private jets, is even nearer, just 6 miles from the house. Closer still, the private parkland surrounding Denham Place offers a landing pad for helicopters. And access to England’s motorway network is minutes away.

There could hardly be a more accessible location for a house of such importance and unique attributes as Denham Place.

"Short of acquiring a Royal Palace, sadly not available, there are no other opportunities to acquire a property of this stature, so close to the UK capital."

LORD ANDREW HAY | FORMER GLOBAL HEAD OF RESIDENTIAL REAL ESTATE, KNIGHT FRANK

JUST TWENTY MILES TO ‘THE SQUARE MILE’

————

‘The Square Mile’, London’s celebrated financial centre, is within easy reach of Denham Place. The City of London is home to many of the world’s major financial institutions, including the Bank of England, the London Stock Exchange and the Lloyd’s of London insurance market. Canary Wharf, a little further east, is the European base for the world’s most prestigious banks.

In Mayfair, the destination for elegant nightlife and the capital’s culinary delights, Annabel’s and 5 Hertford Street are exclusive private members’ clubs. As for dining, Scott’s, Sexy Fish, Corrigan’s, 34 and The Grill at the Dorchester are highlights among Mayfair’s appetising list.

HEATHROW AND NORTHOLT AIRPORTS

————

Heathrow airport is London’s major international airport. Based on passenger traffic, it is the busiest airport in Europe and the second busiest airport in the world. It is the primary hub for British Airways and very well served by Asian and Middle East airlines.

RAF Northolt airport, home to the Royal Squadron and the Queen’s Flight, provides VIP air transport through its Jet Centre. In recent years, Northolt has become one of England’s most sought-after private jet airports, thanks to its proximity to central London and its high levels of privacy and security. For residents and guests at Denham Place, the airport offers quick, discreet and secure arrivals and departures. Northolt has one runway in operation, spanning 1,687 m × 46 m (5,535 ft × 151 ft), with a grooved asphalt surface.

With high security measures in place, RAF Northolt is favoured by VIPs, diplomats and government ministers does not generally have arrival delays.

DENHAM AERODROME

————

Even nearer than Northolt, Denham aerodrome is less than a five-minute drive from the gates of Denham Place. Residents may base their helicopter in the hangar or use the services of HQ Aviation, a local enterprise with an impressive fleet of over 30 helicopters.

THE QUINTESSENTIAL ENGLISH COUNTY

Buckinghamshire is notable for its open countryside and natural features, including the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Stowe Landscaped Gardens near Buckingham, and the River Thames. The county also has many historic houses open to the public, including Waddeston Manor, West Wycombe Park and Cliveden. Other historic houses such as Denham Place and Chequers, the Prime Minister‘s country retreat, are still in use as private homes.

The coat of arms of the county features a white swan in chains. This dates back to Anglo-Saxon times, when swans were bred in Buckinghamshire for the king’s pleasure. The arms were first borne at the Battle of Agincourt by the Duke of Buckingham.

The county has fertile agricultural lands, with many landed estates, especially those of the Rothschild banking family of England in the 19th century.

DENHAM VILLAGE

————

Denham is a Buckinghamshire village seemingly untouched by the passage of time. The tree-lined Village Road includes an ancient pub and several old red brick houses covered with giant wisterias, while the parish church of Saint Mary has a flint and stone Norman tower and Tudor monuments.

The Village was leased in Tudor times to Sir Edmund Peckham, Master of the Mint to King Henry VIII. In 1531 the Peckham family built a grand house on the site of what is now Denham Place. Sir George is believed to have entertained Queen Elizabeth I at Denham Place during one of her grand travels outside the capital.

CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF COURSE

————

The Buckinghamshire Golf Club, with a course designed by legendary Ryder Cup Captain John Jacobs, adjoins the Denham Place estate. Set in 200 acres of mature parkland, the club is home to the Ladies European Tour and has hosted the European Seniors Tournament hosted by Gary Player. In the words of John Jacobs, the course ‘contains interest and beauty for golfers of all levels, providing a challenge or a gentle walk around’.

There are a number of other Golf and Country Clubs in the immediate area including Beaconsfield Golf Club and Stoke Park Golf and Country Club at Stoke Poges. Slightly further afield are the renowned Sunningdale and Wentworth Golf Clubs.

PICTURE POSTCARD VILLAGE

Despite being close to London, Denham experienced only modest growth during the twentieth century. As a result, the village has been relatively unaffected by modern development and is regarded as one of the most picturesque villages in Buckinghamshire. Strolling through its lanes and byways, it is hard to believe that an airport serving private jets is just 6 miles away and the UK motorway network is even nearer.

Denham’s concentration of attractive, well preserved historic buildings in a secluded setting has made it a desirable place to live. It is an affluent village, the chosen residence of many notable individuals.
